Top Way to Avoid Residential Reverse Osmosis Systems’ High Costs

It depends, if you have brackish water laced with salt, then yes, one of the residential reverse osmosis systems is a good solution. But, if you are on a chlorinated water system, with no salt problems, there are simpler and far less expensive systems available. In this article we will look at why one of these systems, selective filtration, might be a better choice for you than reverse osmosis.

No doubt you have been hearing about our need to reduce our body’s exposure to toxic chemicals; something now referred to as reducing the “body burden” or the total amount of toxins in our body.

In the past, we worried a lot about the quality of the water we consumed and how it was affecting our bodies, and rightly so, but now scientists are discovering the quality of the air in our home poses an even greater load on our bodies. One of the largest offenders is chloroform, a byproduct of the chlorine in our water.

In a report from the EPA, it state, “Every home in America has an elevated level of chloroform gas due to the vaporization of chlorine…from the tap and shower water.” (What they didn’t say is the dishwasher and the washing machine are not far behind the shower in chloroform output).

By removing the chemical toxins at the point of entry into our homes, using whole house purification units, we significantly improve both the quality of the water and the quality of the air.

The main reason to look at RO and SF systems before you buy is the difference between their initial costs and operating costs, especially in whole house systems.

In today’s world, cost differences might determine whether or not we can even buy a whole house unit. Very good residential selective filtration systems will run about $800. Comparable residential reverse osmosis systems are in the $10,000 range.

What causes the huge price difference?

One of the hardest things to remove from water is salt and, years ago, RO was developed as a cheaper way to clean up salt water than by using distillation. But that was when water and electricity were both very cheap. Today RO is an expensive technology as you will see.

Water is forced through a membrane, in the RO process, that will only allow molecules equal in size or smaller than water’s to pass through. All other matter is left behind.

Chemicals having a molecular size smaller than water’s, such as chlorine and its byproducts, will pass right through the membrane. For that reason, and in order to protect the membrane, RO systems must add a carbon filter to the system.

The small RO systems are very slow, taking two or three hours to produce a single gallon of filtered water. Whole house units, on the other hand, can filter upwards of 2,000 gallons per day. Large or small units require a pressurized tank in order to be able to deliver a larger quantity water quickly.

The minimum pressure required to operate most of the smaller countertop units is 40 psi (pounds per square inch) and older homes, or some well water systems, may need to add booster pumps. Since more pressure is required to operate the whole house systems, booster pumps are usually included with the unit.

A lot of water is wasted, even with adequate pressure in the system, because for every gallon filtered, often 2 to 5 gallons of water cannot be pushed through the membrane. This water is then flushed, along with the filtered contaminants.

This waste water is recycled in some systems, however, the need for electricity, recycling, storage tanks and (maybe) booster pumps are the cause of the increased up front costs and they add to the higher cost to operate as well. And, all the extra equipment means it is more likely there are going to be additional maintenance costs too.

If you are on a chlorinated water system (95% of us are), a good option for consideration is selective filtration.

Selective filtration on the whole house level uses an innovative multistage filtration process consisting of mechanical filtration, redox and adsorptive filtration to rapidly process the water.

Toxic metals dissolved in the water, such as lead or mercury, are removed by a chemical exchange process using a redox filter in a simple filtration technique. Until the recent development of redox filters, only RO or distillation could remove dissolved lead and other toxic metals from water.

Chlorine and its byproducts, along with other organic chemicals, are 99 percent (plus) removed by the activated charcoal. And, the total process treats water somewhat like a water softener, with no sodium added, and the odors, bad tastes and sediment are also removed.

All of this is done quickly, producing up to seven gallons of filtered water per minute, and install easily, without electricity, booster pumps or storage tanks.

For anyone wanting to improve the air and water quality in their home, selective filtration systems are a viable cost saving option to consider.

Is this Miele floor attachment right for me?

When purchasing a Miele canister vacuum cleaner there are many different cleaning heads to choose from. But many consumers are confused by the amount of cleaning heads and are not sure whether the cleaning head they are looking at is proper for their floors and/or rugs. Miele makes 4 different types of cleaning heads that all perform differently and are made for specific house styles. This article will tell you which cleaning head is ideal for your household.

Many families require the power of an electric motor in their floor tool in order to effectively clean their rugs and carpets. A Miele powerhead uses a motor and belt to rotate a roller that has bristles on it to release the dirt in your carpets. A nice feature found on Miele powerheads is electronic overload. This feature prevents the user from overheating and breaking the motor and/or belt, by shutting down the motor if anything ever gets caught in the brushroll.

There are 2 Miele Powerheads available on the market today. There is one powerhead that is small and lightweight to get around and that is called the Miele’s Midsized Powerhead. The Midsized powerhead is great for medium-sized to short-sized pile carpeting with little to a fair amount of pet hair. The Mid-sized powerhead has all-rubber wheels so you can transition from carpeting to bare floors without harming your floors. Miele also makes a large-sized powerhead, which is meant for a house with high-sized to medium-sized carpeting with high traffic areas and large amounts of pet hair. The large-sized powerhead also has rubber wheels for hard floor cleaning.

Another piece Miele makes is called a Turbohead. A Turbohead is a unique piece that uses the air speed of the machine to rotate the brushroll at a high velocity. The velocity of the brushroll allows the Turbohead to pick up a large amount of dirt off of carpeting.

Is a Turbohead right for my Household? The Miele STB-205 Turbohead is great for a household that contains area rugs or low pile carpeting with no pets. The Turbohead is lighter to push around than a powerhead but the trade off is it is not as powerful. A Turbohead cannot be turned off so it is recommended that you purchase a Floor Brush to go with it if you have bare floors. The Miele Antares and Miele Pisces come packed with the Miele STB-205 Turbohead.

Miele has another attachment, known as the Rug and Floor Head, which has a switch to make it ideal for either carpeting or hard surfaces, such as wood or tile. This attachment, like the Turbohead, does not use electricity and does not have a turning brush.

Your home is ideal for a Rug and Floor tool, provided it has a mix of area rugs and bare floors. If you have mix you will enjoy the switch on the bottom of the head that allows you to change your head to be ideal from area rugs to bare floors or vice-versa.

What is Miele Parquet Floor Brush? A Miele Parquet Floor Brush, such as the Miele SBB 300-3 Floor Brush, is an attachment that works solely off of suction and has only bristles on the bottom. There is no brushroll and the Floor Brush cannot be used on carpeting or rugs; however a Floor Brush does do a wonderful job at cleaning your bare floors.

This head can be used solely on hard surfaces, such as wood floors, tile and more. If your house consists of any type of carpeting you may want to think about getting a Turbohead or powerhead. If you only have bare floors then this is the piece for you. The parquet tool picks up crumbs in one shot and is extremely agile allowing you to maneuver around obstacles easily.

There are a lot of different heads available from Miele today. Regardless of how floors and carpets are situated throughout your house; Miele has the right tool for you.

There are many ways you can verify if a company you select is safe to work with. It is important to do proper verification so you are not scammed. The things you should consider include keeping you informed, fees, encouraging illegal acts, and more.

It is unfortunate that people scam someone when they are trying to rebuild their credit but it happens all of the time. This is because when you are coming to a business to help you repair your credit you are vulnerable and some people know this. Unfortunately, scammers know that vulnerability is the best way to take advantage of a person. You are less likely to notice you have been scammed until it is too late. Be sure to research any business before you make a decision on signing a contract.

When you work with a credit repair agency they are supposed to keep you entirely informed throughout the entire process. If you have questions that the agency will not give you a straight forward answer with then you might not want to work with them. You have the right to ask questions. It is your credit you are fixing. Don’t go with any company who doesn’t give you a straight answer and is honest with you. In addition, they should keep you informed throughout the entire process. If they are not you might want to consider going with someone else. Scammers usually make people think that information is confidential and they cannot tell you. There is nothing that you should not be told about your credit.

Always read a contract before you sign it. Thousands of people are scammed every year due to illegitimate businesses scamming people while they want to fix their credit. It is important to be sure that you read all of the fine print. Read every little word on the contract and be sure there is nothing printed that does not look right. If there is have a new contract drawn up without the stipulations you do not agree with. If the business will not draw a contract you agree to then go with someone else. You do not want to be scammed.

Choosing the right company can be a difficult decision when it comes to credit repair. Everyone seems like they are scamming you and it may be hard to trust anyone. The most important thing is to be sure the company is certified and that they are a non-profit agency. A company that wants to make money on helping you repair your credit is not in it for the best interest of the consumer but for themselves. If they are going to make money on your debts they are most likely going to scam you. Be sure there are no fees and no hidden costs with a company you choose.

There are many things to think about when you want to avoid being scammed in repairing your credit. The best ways to avoid a scam include repairing your credit on your own, paying close attention to the company and being very clear about what your rights are. Educate yourself. Don’t go with any company that makes you feel uncomfortable in any way. Read all of the fine print before you sign a contract and be comfortable with who you choose to help you repair your credit. These things are very important.

You know that your electricity bill is high, and when you think about all of the things that are plugged in inside your home, it is no wonder that your bill rises each month. With your electric lights, televisions, computers, electric stoves and clothes dryers, you are using a huge amount of electricity each and every day.

The problem is that everybody uses a lot of electricity and electricity is not cheap. It is not a renewable source either. This means that many people are trying to do the right thing when it comes to electricity. Using a solar power system in your home is an affordable way to power your home. Here is a look at what you should know about solar systems before installing one.

Learn Everything You Can About Solar Power:
Before deciding to invest your money in solar power systems for your home, you should take the time to do your research and learn all you can about this form of energy. You should learn the advantages and disadvantages of solar power and find out more about the latest technology and the products that are available to you.

There are many books, magazines and websites that can help you understand the basics of solar energy, and how you can use this energy to your advantage inside your home. Knowing all you can will help you make a better decision about going solar.

Take an Honest Look at Your Needs:

The next thing that you need to do before deciding to go solar is to take a hard and honest look at your electricity needs. You will need to figure out how much energy you use on a monthly basis so that you will be able to calculate how much solar power you will need to collect. There are many websites solely dedicated to this purpose, and they will help you decide whether or not going solar is right for you.

After you have assessed your electricity needs, you may decide that you can reduce the amount of electricity you use. If you can reduce the amount of electricity you use by using more energy efficient appliances and energy-efficient light bulbs, you can then decrease the amount of solar power that you will need to install.

This is only the starting point for going solar in your home or business. You can also consult a professional that can help walk you through the process of converting to solar energy.

Tips For Gardening Lawn Care

For those starting out, gardening lawn care is important. Find the best information available for maintaining your yard.

Quite a bit of information regarding gardening lawn care is available to you, and you need it all. There are some aspects that you really need to know how to handle properly including proper methods to mowing your lawn, removing pests and adding fertilizers. These are just the start of the information you need, but highly important.

Proper Mowing

In gardening lawn care, mowing is one of the most important aspects of lawn care. There are several things to pay attention to in particular to get the results you want. First, mow your lawn in different directions with each mow rather than mowing along the same pattern every time. Doing this will allow you to see benefits in cutting off more of each weed leaf. Any leaf that may be leaning in one direction is still cut. This keeps them out of the competition with your grass.

Keep the clippings on the lawn. This gives several advantages including the fact that during a dry season, they add moisture to your lawn. This is because grass clippings are composed of 85 percent of water. They are also full of nutrients that the soil need to remain healthy for the grass you want to grow there.

Proper Watering

Regular watering of your lawn is important to gardening lawn care. Most know this but you also have to look at drainage of that water. For example, if you live in an elevated area, you need to add more because water run down will be substantial. You may want to consider adding an irrigation system to your lawn so that the area is regularly watered well.

Handling Pests

Perhaps one of the worst things working against you in gardening lawn care is the pest. The best thing for this is to have a dense turf to protect from the invasion. This will also keep out weeds. Fix any problems with your lawn when you notice them so that they are handled before becoming larger problems.

Fertilizing Properly

Finally, an important part of gardening lawn care is providing your lawn with the nutrients it needs to remain healthy. To do this, add fertilizer correctly. Remember that fertilizer should only be added when the soil has dropped below the necessary nutrient level for maintaining healthy grass. Sometimes all you need to do is to add compost to your lawn to give it the necessary nutrients it needs. Gardening lawn care requires a bit of attention to these details!

Planting Flower Bulbs For A Beautiful Garden

Filed Under (Home Improvement) by Keith Markensen on 18-11-2008

Flower bulbs are fleshy underground lumps of leaves, stems, or roots. Some bulbs are more accurately called corms or tubers. Tubers and corms are both sections of thickened stem, while tubers also have modified buds. Tubers, corms, and bulbs will all grow into full plants. There is a vast variety of bulbs available, allowing a great range of flower shapes and colors. Planting a variety of bulbs in your garden is an easy way to create a beautiful array of colorful blooms.

Many beautiful flowers are planted as bulbs. Gardeners enjoy planting bulbs because they produce so many flowers, with very little care or effort required. Most bulbs bloom very early in the season, with some producing flowers in early March.

When planting your bulbs, they should be planted about 3 to 6 inches deep. The larger the bulb, the deeper it should be planted. Use a spade or shovel to dig a small hole in the soil, then place your bulb in the hole, and replace the dirt. If you are planting a bulb in poor soil, consider adding bone meal or better soil in the hole. This can help your bulbs grow better.

Every spring, you should fertilize your flower bulbs with manure or chemical fertilizer. However, keep fresh manure away from the roots or the bulb itself, instead working the fertilizer well into the soil. While your plant is blooming, you may wish to cut off most of the buds, so that the plant can devote its energy to making the remaining flowers as beautiful as they can be. You must water your bulbs regularly. If your soil is generally quite try, punch a few holes around the plant, so that the moisture can easily make its way to the roots.

If you wish to have early flowering bulbs even on your small backyard, consider many different varieties of tulips which blossom as early as April. Other bulbs which usually flower early in the season include narcissus, grape hyacinth, snowdrop, winter aconite, iris, and crocus. Because most gardeners and landscape designers try to time their plants so that they always have flowers blooming throughout the season, early-flowering bulbs are an excellent choice.

For bulbs which will flower in mid-summer, try Autumn crocus, Gladiolus, Cluster amaryllis, lilies, bearded iris, dahlias, peonies, Summer hyacinth, Calla lilies, or Mariposa. All of these flowers can add beauty and interest in your garden during the season when you probably spend the most time in your garden.

Indoor Plants And Its Outdoor Environments

Filed Under (Home Improvement) by Gary Antosh on 18-11-2008

Tagged Under :

by Keith Markensen

When growing houseplants, you may be surprised to learn that the outside environment does affect your indoor plants. If you are trying to maintain a healthy indoor garden, one of the main barriers to your plants’ health is pollution. In cities, and even in suburbs, dust, grime, and exhaust make it hard even for indoor plants to thrive.

Because plants ‘breathe” through their leaves, allowing their leaves to become covered with dust and dirt is not only unattractive, but also harmful to the plants. Therefore, you should pay special attention to cleaning the foliage of your plants, making sure that they are kept clean and free from dirt and dust.

If your plants have shiny smooth leaves, the easiest way to clean the leaves is to give them a sponge-bath with slightly warmed water and a very small amount of soap. Then, rinse with clean water, making sure that no soapy residue is left on the leaves. This will remove any dust or dirt, as well as any pests which may have found their way onto your houseplants.

If your plants have hairy leaves, such as African Violets, keep them clean by occasionally brushing the leaves with a fine soft brush. However, be gentle, so that you do not harm the leaves with rough treatment.

During the summer, you can give your plants special care by returning them to nature for the season. If you have a garden, or even a porch or patio, your houseplants can spend two or three months outside each year. However, keep in mind that you should try to replicate their indoor conditions when you leave your plants in the garden, as they have acclimated to being indoors, just like an aralia plant. Try to replicate the amount of light your plants were receiving indoors, keeping plants in shady or sunny spots as needed. Aralias usually get wilted stems when exposed to too much light outdoors. A nursery can also help you determine which of your plants prefer sunny or shady environments.

While you could take the plants out of their pots and plant them directly in the garden, it is probably better to sink the pots into the soil, leaving the plant in the pot. This will keep your plants from the shock of transferring them to completely new and different soil. Also, the pot will keep the roots from spreading, which would make it difficult to re-pot them at the end of the summer. You may wish to drop some gravel into the hole first, to ensure adequate drainage.

While your plants are spending time in the garden, you should not forget about them. Even with rainfall, make sure that they are adequately watered. Make sure to examine them occasionally to make sure that they are not being attacked by pests. When you bring them back inside at the end of the summer, make sure no pests get a free ride into your house, where they can attack your other houseplants.

Maximum satisfaction and great performance is where I found the major manufacturers surge ahead.
